Golf Grip Trainer
The golf grip trainer is a useful aid to your game.
Not only does it allow you to practise your grip away from paid tuition, but it also builds the muscle memory for the right the grip.
After just a few weeks of using my own grip trainer for the first time I ventured back out onto the golf course.
Bristling with confidence, I lined up my tee shot on the first hole and planted the ball further down the course than I realistically thought possible and landed it right on the line I was aiming on.
My old hooks and slices may not be fuilly cured, but they are well on their way, as the faults started drifting into the game later.
I suppose the easy answer is that when you are not in a competitive game to carry the swing trainer in your bag.
If you are only on a practice round, grab the grip trainer whilst waiting at the tee and practice a few swings with it.
So how does a golf grip trainer work?
Basically, they are shortened versions of your standard iron, with a weighted head and usually a twist in the shaft.
They have a very moulded handle, making them 'illegal' in competition play - even if they don't leave the bag.
When you hold the club your fingers are automatically placed in the correct positions - those my friendly professional has been trying to get me to use for years!
After regular practice with the club, you then find yourself automatically using the correct grip.
I'm not saying that the trainer will ever take away the needs of professional tuition, but for mere the mortals amongst us, professional tuition is inaffordable every day of the week.
And that's where the golf trainer comes in useful.
Find a suitable practice space and you can train your grip every day - even in doors if there is space.
Because you are not hitting a ball, there's no self-competition to see how far you can strike it.
It's just pure, plain getting the feel of the grip correct.
Fedback is because the grip feels good, not where the ball lands, so you concentrate on just developing that perfect grip.
